Dax Open Day - Saturday 24 September 2005

DJ Sportscars held their autumn (and second of the year) open day recently and some things in life are certain. One is the almost guaranteed good attendance, and the other is good weather. Around 60 cars turned up at their Harlow headquarters and kept the staff mega busy all day.

DJ managing director Brian Johns said, "Traditionally, our September date is a bit quieter than the Good Friday open day, but this year we had possibly more owners cars and people turn up, although the glorious sunshine undoubtedly helped. We were due to finish at 4pm but were still dealing with sales enquiries and Simon and Darren were busy selling spare parts until after 5.30pm!"

In what turned out to be a very successful day, with orders taken, there was also an international flavour to proceedings with the company’s Belgian agent attending, and a Swedish customer who has already purchased four Tojeiro bodies, which he has fitted to his own Corvette-based chassis, arrived to pick up another body, but was so impressed with the new de Dion Tojeiro chassis, he went home with one of them too!

Meanwhile, well-known DAX Rush owner Duncan Cowper - he of the turbocharged Hayabusa powered 777bhp per tonne missile - sold his fiercesomely capable Rush and is now busy plotting his next DAX ride.

Some visitors noticed that DJ Sportscars' technical engineer Gary Sanders was absent from the open day. The reason? He was busy becoming WORLD lawnmower racing CHAMPION!

Brian said, "Gary is an absolute star and is always working away at something special in his spare time, but after becoming European champion last year, this is a real achievement for him to become World champ. We'll have to start calling him Sir! Although this year has been quieter than others, our sales have still been pleasing with an almost 50/50 split between Tojeiro and Rush, which again is encouraging. With enquiries starting to flood in we're really looking forward to a good end to 2005 and a great start to 2006."
