Bigger boys' toy bows in at Bingley
February 2001
DJ Sportscars
International will be showing off its latest new-build at the Stafford Show,
Bingley Hall, on 10 and 11 March - and this one is definitely a toy for the big
boys. The long wheel-base DAX Rush is designed to make a clubman-style
sportscar accessible to people who could never fit into one before.
The
lwb chassis, the work of designer Peter Walker and development engineer Gary
Saunders, has been available as an option for a year. Now potential customers
can try it for themselves in 2 litre Efi De Dion LX guise - with a few little
extras like alloy wheels, chrome suspension and de luxe trim
. including,
for the first time, colour-coded instruments.
DJ Marketing Director
Simon Johns is a little over six-feet tall. "This car just swallows me up," he
said. "I can hardly reach the pedals."
Lucky for some
There will
be another chance to measure your length in the new long wheel-base Rush
demonstrator at the DAX Harlow Open Day on Good Friday - 13th April.
As
always, all Rush, Tojeiro and Kamala owners are welcome - with or without their
cars, but hopefully the weather will continue to be kind to this annual event -
together with potential customers. There will be plenty of food and drink for
all.
Rush racer is named DAX Driver of the Year
DAX Rush racer
Andrew Sterling from Brockenhurst in Hampshire has been named the DAX Driver of
the Year for 2000.
He finished a close second in the highly competitive
'A' class of the Grassroots.com kit car championship run by the 750 Motor Club,
winning six races from a remarkable run of eight pole positions in the last
eight. Only two incidents with another competitor - both times when leading -
prevented him from claiming the championship at his third
attempt.
Andrew, has now finished second in the championship for two
years in a row. His DAX Rush chassis - powered by a highly-modified Rover V8 -
must be one of the most successful ever at this level of competition, having
notched up 13 firsts, five seconds and five thirds in two years.
DAX
designer and motor sport guru Peter Walker said: 'This is the third time we
have made this award and this year's decision was the most difficult yet. It
was a close run thing between Andrew and Mark Butler, who was highly successful
in hillclimbs with the DAX Rush V8 4x4 special which we built up ourselves a
couple of years ago."
