Long wheelbase Rush launched at Exeter

22nd November, 1999

DJ Sportscars International surprised visitors to the Exeter Show on 20 and 21 November by launching yet another variant of its Rush clubman-style sportscar. The long wheelbase chassis will make all versions of the popular Rush accessible to even more potential customers.

This new chassis for the 'fastest accelerating kit car in the world' will be available as an option in IRS, De Dion or classic live-axle form in the new year. The prototype chassis shown at Exeter is yet another major Rush innovation from DJ, which launched the single-donor De Dion model earlier this year and has since seen it become the best-seller in its range.

Brian Johns, Managing Director of DJ said: "The De Dion has been selling like hot cakes since its introduction. We have clearly identified a gap in the market for a quality car at an affordable price which is capable of handling plenty of power - the majority of orders are for Rover or Cosworth-engined versions.

"The Pinto-engined budget LX version has also being selling well and we are building up an example as an additional demonstrator. The story of this build is being told on our web-site at http://www.daxcars.co.uk/"

Brian said that the existing wide-bodied Rush is already one of the best cars in its class for taller or larger drivers. "Even so, there are some exceptionally tall individuals who have found this type of car impossible in the past. The extra three inches which we have introduced to the lwb chassis may not sound much, but it makes an enormous difference. Add in the benefit of our newly-developed sunken floor-pan and those of well above average height will find levels of comfort which were previously unavailable in a minimalist two-seater." DAX has even made a special version for one customer of 6ft. 9ins.

As with all DAX models, the long wheelbase Rush is designed to meet all SVA requirements. Last year, a DJ Sportscars DAX Rush became the first amateur-built car to receive a Minister's Approval Certificate from the Vehicle Inspectorate's main London Testing Centre, passing at its first attempt.

DJ Sportscars International, manufacturer of the DAX Tojeiro, DAX Rush and DAX Kamala, is one of the longest established component car manufacturers and has a world-wide reputation for engineering excellence. The company has been in business for more than 30 years and has been designing and building component cars for 19 years.
