DAX Rush dominates to claim Kit-Car Championship
9 Nov, 2001
DAX Rush driver Andy
Sterling has claimed an emphatic class and overall victory in the grp.com
Kit-Car Championship - clinching the title at Cadwell Park with one round left
to run, then celebrating with victory in the final event at Snetterton on
Sunday 28 October.
It was a long overdue result for Andy, from
Brockenhurst in Hampshire, who finished second twice and third once in the 750
Motor Club-run championship in the preceding seasons
.despite winning more
races over that time than anyone else.
His DAX Rush IRS chassis -
powered by an SU-carburetted Rover V8 and fitted with DAX designer Peter
Walker's unique Camber Compensation and Anti-Roll system front and rear - must
be one of the most successful ever at this level of competition, having notched
up 21 firsts, seven seconds and six thirds in the last three years. It will now
be rebuilt and offered for sale in road trim.
Andy won eight of the 12
rounds in 2001, finishing second in two and third in another. The best 10
scores count for the championship, and only incidents outside his control in a
couple of events prevented him from notching a maximum in his fourth full year
of competition.
'This year was about winning,' said the 2000 DAX Driver
of the Year, 'and putting the disappointments of the previous years behind us.
We have done that conclusively. The competition was strong, but we pushed it
aside.
'The sponsorship I have received from DJ Sportscars International
is highly appreciated. They have been extremely helpful. We have exciting plans
for next season and I will continue to try to give them the results they
deserve.' (Andy and DJ's plans for 2002 will be the subject of a separate
announcement.)
The Camber Compensation and Anti-Roll independent front
suspension system was fitted to Andy's Rush mid-way through the 2000 season,
having been incorporated in the IRS earlier. 'There is no doubt that camber
compensation makes a big difference,' he said, 'particularly on a relatively
heavy car like mine where permitted tyre widths are limited by the
regulations.'
The system maximises grip by constantly optimising each
tyre's footprint with the road. "I couldn't be more delighted with Andy's
well-deserved victory," said Peter Walker. "He has demonstrated conclusively
that the system provides significantly more grip under all conditions and
counters roll without the need for anti-roll bars.'
The Camber
Compensation and Anti-Roll front suspension system, which also offers
significant benefits in road use, can be fitted during production to any IRS or
De Dion DAX Rush at a cost of £995 and is an integral part of the
super-lightweight, round-tube motorcycle-engined chassis.
