Currently offered with a choice of chassis & suspension systems – traditional
IRS or advanced De Dion with CC&AR* – the Tojeiro is now seen by many to
epitomise the marque.
Its engine options are extensive and DAX currently hold
engine mounting and exhaust jigs for virtually any V8 (American
or English) or any of the Jaguar-derived V12 or straight 6 units.
For many
years now the clear customer favourite has been the small-block
Chevrolet V8 – perhaps due to its competitive price and wide choice of power
outputs (typically 250 to 420bhp). But other popular engines include units
from the Ford small block and all-aluminium Chevrolet LS ranges – with Rover
V8 & Jaguar
units still proving highly popular with some.
For their latest demonstrator,
DAX themselves have chosen to revisit the awesome American big-block V8.
With 502 cubic inches (8.2 litres) of Chevy V8 producing 502 bhp and a massive
567lbf.ft of torque, the new demo thunders to 60 mph in 4 seconds – and continues
to a top speed of well over 180mph!

The new car is based on DAX’s latest De Dion / CC&AR* option with its comprehensively triangulated, high-profile backbone chassis and technologically advanced suspension. It’s no exaggeration to say that the car amazes all that go out in it – harnessing the power of the massive big block with consummate ease and providing levels of grip, composure and ride comfort that simply have to be experienced to be believed!
Even Jonathon Palmer was heard to say, “Wow, that’s just staggering!“ when taking the new De Dion demonstrator for a few laps around Brands last year – great praise indeed from an ex-Formula 1 driver!
Not, of course, that the IRS chassis lacks ability – it did after all help Martin Harrison win the prestigious 750 Motor Club sports & kit car championship a few years back.
Even on casual acquaintance, there can be no doubting the Tojeiro’s quality, performance and style but the strength of its appeal doesn’t end there.
Safety has always featured highly in the design of any DAX and the Tojeiro is certainly no exception. For example, the construction of both Tojeiro chassis not only maximises interior space but also provides the occupants with inbuilt crumple zones front and rear and a substantial protective structure that reassuringly extends to the full width of the vehicle. An array of other Tojeiro safety features includes an ‘Explosafe’ fuel tank option, optional braced structural roll-over hoops, an impact collapsible steering system and indeed, everything needed to ensure full compliance with the requirements of the Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) test.
And then, of course, there’s the Tojeiro’s legendary ease of build – designed with no welding or GRP work being required of the builder and no need for any special tools. Free and lavishly illustrated Assembly Guides are provided that steer the builder through each stage of the project to ensure construction is kept well within the scope of the average DIY enthusiast. And in the unlikely event that questions do arise, the staff at DAX is always on hand to provide technical advice, without charge or limit, extending right through the build and beyond!
It’s no wonder that the DAX Tojeiro remains the market leader – from whatever viewpoint, it’s a package that simply cannot be beaten!!
